Description
Volga German Intellectuals as Victims of Political Persecution

by Viktor Krieger, Ph.D., Heidelberg, Germany
translated by Alex Herzog, Boulder, Colorado.
Lincoln, Nebraska, 2009, American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.

This book describes a process against two Volga-German "intellectuals," the time frame of which, 1930, tends to surprise even some historians, but clearly foreshadows those later trials. Many of our German-Russian relatives remained behind in Russia and eventually came to suffer in the Soviet state because they were Germans, taking them to work camps and eventual death. Described here is the process against two noted Volga-German "intellectuals;” George Dinges and Peter Sinner were arrested and tried along with others. A brief historical background begins the well researched, well documented translation from Russian to German, to English, and includes the official documents from the 1930s, and the 1964 regional court document which finally exonerates both Dinges and Sinner. Many of our ancestors became victims of the same mindless persecutions. In most all details this foretells of the show trials against Germans in Russia (Russian citizens) by the NKVD.  Paperback
